A detailed medical examination of former prime minister and PTI founder, 73, was completed on February 15, 2026, by a specialized medical board, according to an official report released on Monday.

The medical board comprised Prof Dr Nadeem Qureshi from Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital and Prof Dr Muhammad Arif Khan from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

    Significant Improvement in Eye Health

The report noted a marked improvement in central macular thickness, which reduced from 550 to 350 — indicating substantial recovery.

Vision in the affected right eye improved from 6/36 to 6/9, which doctors described as satisfactory at the current stage of treatment.

Without corrective lenses, vision was recorded at 6/24 in the right eye and 6/9 in the left eye. With glasses, visual acuity improved to 6/9 in the right eye and 6/6 in the left eye. The report includes comprehensive details regarding his current ophthalmic condition.

    Treatment Plan and Recommendations

The medical board also outlined a continued treatment plan, recommending: Nevannak eye drops for both eyes twice daily, Co-Sopt eye drops for the right eye twice daily, Systane Ultra eye drops for both eyes three times daily, administration of the second dose of Anti-VEGF injection as per schedule, OCT angiography for further evaluation and Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) after completion of Anti-VEGF treatment.

Briefing to Political Leaders and Personal Physicians

Following the board’s visit to Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar  AliKhan and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas visited PIMS, where medical experts provided a detailed briefing.

PTI founder’s personal physicians, Dr Asim Yousuf and Dr Khurram Mirza, were also briefed over the phone, the report stated.

According to the document, party leaders and personal doctors expressed full satisfaction and confidence in the ongoing treatment and follow-up plan.

The medical examination report has been formally issued with the signatures of both board members.
