Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has reiterated that she had strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli genocide in Palestine.

Speaking on a podcast hosted by singer and education activist Shehzad Roy, Malala said: “I had said in October 2023 that Israel is committing genocide in Palestine.”

The Nobel prize winner made the remarks while rejecting criticism on social media that she remains silent on the issue.

Malala said that she had described the Israeli actions in Palestine as “genocide”.

Responding to a question, she said that despite posting on social media about Palestine, some people continued to accuse her of remaining quiet on the issue.

Israel’s ensuing two-year campaign killed more than 72,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to Gazan health authorities, and has spread famine, demolished most buildings, and displaced most of the territory’s population, in many cases numerous times.

Citing a recent example, Malala said she had swiftly condemned the fatal strike on a school in Iran that resulted in the deaths of many children last month.

More than 175 children and teachers were killed in the strike on Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab, Iran.

However, she said misinformation persisted, with some claiming she had not responded.

“My small hope is that people at least check the facts,” said the Nobel laureate.
