The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced plans to launch an electric bike scheme for women, under which college and university students and working women will be eligible to receive electric bikes.

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi announced the initiative during the 57th meeting of the provincial cabinet. He said eligible women across the province would receive electric bikes strictly on a merit basis.

The government plans to launch the first phase of the electric bike scheme soon. However, officials have not yet announced how many bikes will be distributed, the detailed eligibility criteria, the application process or the exact launch date.

Afridi also announced plans to introduce an electric rickshaw scheme after the launch of the electric bike initiative. He said electric rickshaws would help create a cleaner and greener environment in the province.

The chief minister also directed relevant authorities to speed up work on an electric bus scheme for divisional headquarters across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The initiatives are part of the provincial government’s broader plans to promote electric vehicles, reduce reliance on conventional transportation and provide women with more affordable and convenient transportation options.
