The families of two Cleveland Police officers who lost their lives in the A66 tragedy last weekend have received personal letters of condolence from King Charles III.
According to the Mirror, the king expressed his deepest sympathy to the widows of PC Tom Clough, 38, and PC Matthew Blades, 37.
Charles reportedly wanted to show his support as people across the country came together to pay tribute to the two officers, who “made the ultimate sacrifice” while serving on duty.
Seven people, including the two police officers, died in a car crash in northeast England on Saturday after a car traveling the wrong way on a major road collided with a marked armed response police vehicle.
Cleveland Police said the incident happened near the South Bank area, east of Middlesbrough, and all the occupants of both vehicles died at the scene.
A GoFundMe campaign launched by the Cleveland Police Federation to support the officers’ families has raised £1,123,876 and is nearing its £1.2 million target.
