LAHORE: Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza of the Lahore High Court(LHC) has tendered his resignation from the judicial post.
He was ranked fifth in seniority at the High Court and took oath as a judge on 22 March 2014.
Sources indicate that Justice Mirza resigned due to personal reasons, and his resignation has been formally submitted to the President of Pakistan.
In addition to his judicial duties, he also served as a member of the Lahore High Court’s Administration Committee.
Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza of the Lahore High Court has tendered his resignation, though he was due to retire in 2028. He took oath as an Additional Judge of the Lahore High Court on 22 March 2014. Justice Mirza is the son of former Supreme Court judge Justice Zia Mahmood Mirza and also served as a member of the Lahore High Court’s Administrative Committee.
Reports suggest that following the 27th Constitutional Amendment, there were possibilities of judicial transfers affecting Justice Mirza, which may have influenced his decision to resign.
The 27th Amendment had earlier prompted resignations from senior Supreme Court judges, including Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, whose resignations were accepted by the President of Pakistan.
