The announcement follows a report by Puck last week that Jay-Z was being considered for the performance.

The report also named Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber as potential candidates.

Jay-Z's selection comes as his entertainment company, Roc Nation, partners with the NFL on the Super Bowl halftime show.

Jay-Z, who is married to singer Beyoncé, has won 25 Grammy Awards and achieved 14 number-one albums.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 and has been described in reports as the wealthiest music artist ever.

Beyoncé previously headlined the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show and appeared as a guest performer at Super Bowl 50.

Jay-Z has also been performing a stadium concert series marking the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint.

The series included three sold-out nights at Yankee Stadium, alongside performances at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Stade de France and SoFi Stadium.

Jay-Z's appointment follows last year's Super Bowl halftime show, headlined by Bad Bunny, with appearances from Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga, among others.

The performance reportedly attracted 4.157 billion viewers across global and US broadcasts, YouTube and other digital platforms during its first 24 hours, setting a record for the most-watched halftime show.

Jay-Z will headline Super Bowl LXI halftime show on February 14 2027 at SoFi Stadium in California.
