Iran’s chief negotiator and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Saturday that Tehran is ready for “full-scale defense” if the United States does not honor the memorandum of understanding, or MoU, signed by the two countries.
Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran remains committed to defending the country and warned against any violation of the agreement by Washington.
“We have never stopped preparing to defend our country, and if the Americans betray the understanding at any time, we are ready for full-scale defense,” Ghalibaf said.
“Ending the war is a priority for countries around the world, but everyone should know that this conflict will never end with Iran’s surrender,” he added.
His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump said on social media that Tehran and Washington had agreed to continue talks while also claiming the ceasefire between the two sides was “over.”
The latest remarks highlight continued uncertainty surrounding relations between Iran and the United States despite recent diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.
The memorandum of understanding was intended to reduce hostilities and provide a framework for further negotiations.
However, recent statements from both sides have raised new questions about the future of the agreement and whether it can prevent further military escalation in the region.
