Iran issues airspace notice for live-fire drills near Strait of Hormuz

Iran has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) warning of live-fire military exercises in airspace near the Strait of Hormuz, amid heightened regional tensions.

The notice, released on Tuesday, stated that Iran will carry out live-fire drills between January 27 and 29 in an area close to the strategic waterway. The restricted zone covers a circular area with a five-nautical-mile radius.

During the exercises, the designated airspace will be classified as hazardous, with restrictions in place from ground level up to 25,000 feet, according to the notice.

The announcement coincides with a statement from US Air Forces Central (AFCENT), which said it will conduct a multi-day readiness exercise across the US Central Command’s area of responsibility. The exercise aims to showcase the military’s ability to rapidly deploy and sustain forces.

Washington has reiterated that all options, including military action, remain under consideration in its approach toward Tehran. Iranian officials, meanwhile, have warned that any US attack would be met with a swift and comprehensive response.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global chokepoint for energy shipments, and any military activity in the area is closely watched by the international community.
