Companies have been given 90 days to comply with the new regulations. Critics argue that the move imposes government control over private devices and undermines user freedom.
The Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) has expressed concern, labeling the mandate as illegal. According to the IFF, this action is equivalent to administrative control over personal digital devices.
The Indian opposition has also criticized the decision, stating that it violates Article 21 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to privacy.
Despite widespread criticism, the Modi government remains firm, insisting that smartphone companies must fully implement the new directive.
