The Google Translate auto-save transcript option is rolling out as of October 12, according to Android Authority, with app version 10.39.34.995726622.4.Live Translate is the Gemini-powered, real-time conversation tool Google added to the Translate app in August 2025.
Until now, you had to tap the Preference icon and choose "Save transcript" once text appeared on screen. The new "Auto-save transcript" toggle saves the transcript automatically at the end of the session, which makes the manual button redundant.Google also seems to be trimming a tap: the Preference icon could open the Settings sheet directly, with Face-to-face Mode moving in beside the text size controls.Glasses are a different story.
Android Authority found code strings showing that transcript saving is disabled when glasses are connected and in use, to protect other people's privacy.
That covers both manual and automatic saving. The logic is easy to follow.
Bystanders often can't tell when they're being recorded.
Many smart glasses have a status LED for the camera, but not explicitly for the microphone.A silent, auto-saved transcript could turn a pair of glasses into a way to record meetings without anyone's permission. The same teardown points to how translation would work on glasses.
You could start a session with a voice command and end it with a swipe on the frame's touchpad.A command like "Hey Google, start translating French" would launch it hands-free, and a backward swipe would stop it.
Google Translate adds auto-save for Live Translate transcripts, with one catch October 12, 2026.
