Ghalibaf condemns US threats over Iranian ports, warns of action

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said that Tehran continues to maintain deep mistrust toward the United States despite the ongoing ceasefire, warning that Iranian forces remain fully prepared for any possible resurgence of hostilities.

Speaking to Iranian media, Ghalibaf stated that Iran does not trust Washington and believes the situation could deteriorate again at any time. He emphasized that Iran’s armed forces are on high alert and fully ready to respond to any scenario.

He also highlighted Iran’s strategic control over the Strait of Hormuz, describing any attempts by the United States to block Iranian ports or maritime access as “foolish” and “ignorant.”

He warned that if pressure or restrictions on Iran continue, Tehran may respond by limiting maritime traffic through the vital waterway, adding that other countries should not expect free passage if Iran itself is denied such rights.

Ghalibaf further explained that the ceasefire framework is not limited to Iran alone, but also includes Hezbollah and the broader regional “resistance axis.” He noted that a ceasefire in Lebanon was a key condition of the broader arrangement, linking regional stability to its full implementation.

He added that Iran supports the normalization of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz but argued that current disruptions are linked to the incomplete implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.

On the diplomatic front he described negotiations with the United States as part of Iran’s broader strategic approach stating that talks serve as a tool to safeguard the rights of the Iranian people while complementing developments on the ground.

Meanwhile, maritime authorities reported heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz following Iran’s announcement stating that Iranian gunboats fired on a tanker attempting to pass through the waterway, while another vessel was reportedly struck by a projectile.
