Could the next James Bond already have a name and Hollywood just isn’t allowed to say it yet?
Gary Oldman has dropped a tantalizing hint that the search for 007 may be over.
The filmmaker claimed the decision has already been made, leaving fans guessing about who will ultimately step into the iconic tuxedo.
In an interview with Canada’s Global, he backed his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden to play 007, saying he had his “fingers crossed” for the Scottish actor.
“It’s been rumoured that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we?” he teased. “Because they have picked him.”
“They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack,” the 68-year-old actor added.
It remains unclear whether Oldman means Lowden has been cast as Bond or is speaking more generally about Amazon MGM Studios choosing Ian Fleming’s secret agent.
Notably, the Bond casting race has featured several big names, with Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi among the actors previously reported as fitting Amazon MGM Studios’ vision for the next 007.
More recently, Lowden has emerged as a particularly intriguing contender, with reports linking him to the role and now Oldman has publicly backed him.
So for now Oldman’s comments add another layer to the mystery, however, the tuxedo remains firmly behind closed doors.
