Microsoft has announced that it will discontinue its lightweight email app Outlook Lite for Android users within the next six weeks, marking a major shift in its mobile email strategy.
According to tech reports the company has confirmed that the app will stop functioning after May 25, after which users will lose access to mailbox services and core features.
As reported by Neowin, Microsoft has set the final shutdown timeline, stating that Outlook Lite will “officially lose all mailbox access” as the company focuses on its full-featured Outlook Mobile application.
Outlook Lite designed specifically for users with low-end or older Android devices, will gradually become non-functional. While the app may still open after the deadline, essential services such as email access, navigation, and in-app functions will no longer work.
Microsoft had already begun phasing out the app earlier, stopping new installations several months ago and informing users that it was being retired starting October 6, 2025, with only limited continued access for existing users until full shutdown.
The company is now encouraging all users to migrate to Outlook Mobile, which is available on both Android and iOS platforms. Microsoft has assured that all emails, calendar entries, and attachments will remain safe and accessible once users sign in to the updated app.
Industry observers note that Microsoft has been consolidating several of its mobile applications in recent months as part of a broader strategy to streamline services and enhance security and performance.
Users who are still on Outlook Lite are advised to update their app immediately via the Google Play Store or switch manually to Outlook Mobile to avoid service disruption.
The move is expected to primarily affect users of older or low-powered Android devices who relied on the lightweight version for smoother performance.
