SWAT: Four terrorists were killed and several others injured on Wednesday, July 29, during a joint operation by police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Matta area of Swat, while an Elite Force constable was martyred during the security action, officials said.

Police and CTD personnel successfully took control of a key location in the Rashid Sar area of Matta during the operation, the operation was still ongoing as security forces continued efforts to eliminate militants.

Officials said the militants had taken shelter inside a house and allegedly used residents as human shields during the exchange. Security personnel launched the operation after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area.

During the operation, Elite Force constable Gulfam Khan lost his life while performing his duty, authorities praised his sacrifice and said his bravery would always be remembered.

A funeral prayer for the martyred constable was held at Police Lines in Swat. The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including the Malakand commissioner, Regional Police Officer (RPO), Swat District Police Officer (DPO), army and police representatives, as well as members of civil society.

A police contingent presented a guard of honor during the funeral to recognize Constable Gulfam Khan’s service and sacrifice. The Malakand RPO said police personnel who lose their lives while protecting the country are national heroes, and their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

The latest operation comes as Pakistan continues to face security challenges, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Authorities have reported an increase in militant activities since 2021 following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan.

Pakistan has repeatedly called on Afghanistan’s Taliban administration to take action against militant groups operating from its territory. Islamabad has previously stated that it launched military operations in response to continued cross-border attacks.

Security officials said operations against militants will continue across affected areas to restore peace and stability. They added that law enforcement agencies remain committed to countering terrorism and protecting civilians.

The Swat operation highlights ongoing efforts by Pakistani security forces to target militant networks and prevent further attacks in the region. Further details about the operation are expected as authorities complete their investigation and clearance activities.
