Former England cricket star Robin Smith, widely known by his nickname “Judge,” has passed away at the age of 62.
His family confirmed that Smith died at his home in Perth, Australia. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Robin Smith enjoyed a distinguished international career with England from 1988 to 1996, featuring in 62 Test matches and amassing 4,236 runs.
He was equally impactful in One Day Internationals, scoring 2,419 runs across 71 matches at an impressive average of 39.01.
Across a prolific 22-year professional career, Smith compiled a staggering 26,155 first-class runs, establishing himself as one of England’s most dependable and elegant top-order batsmen. He was also part of England’s squad in the 1992 Cricket World Cup.
After retiring from cricket in 2003, Smith relocated to Australia. British media reports highlighted that in 2024 he spent several months hospitalized, grappling with mental health challenges and alcoholism.
