KARACHI: A fire broke out at a shopping plaza located on M.A. Jinnah Road in Karachi, resulting in two fatalities and eight injuries, according to rescue officials.

Rescue sources said that the victims were trapped due to the intensity of the blaze. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, where several are reported to be in critical condition.

Rescue and fire brigade teams rushed to the site soon after the incident was reported. Efforts are currently underway to control the blaze and ensure the safety of people inside the building.

According to a spokesperson, the Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 sought urgent assistance from the Karachi Water Corporation to support firefighting operations.

Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said that four fire brigade vehicles along with a snorkel unit are actively working to control the blaze.

He added that the intensity of the fire is high, and it may take time before the situation is fully brought under control.

On the directions of CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, an emergency was imposed at the NEPA and Safoora hydrants to ensure uninterrupted water supply. The Water Corporation promptly dispatched water tankers to the site.

The spokesperson said that Hydrants Cell Incharge Muhammad Siddique Tunio has been in constant coordination with fire brigade and rescue officials, while CEO’s Focal Person for the Hydrants Cell, Shehbaz Bashir, is personally supervising the operation.

Authorities confirmed that continuous water supply is being ensured to help extinguish the fire. The Water Corporation is extending full cooperation to firefighting and rescue teams.

Water tankers will remain available until the fire is completely brought under control, the spokesperson added, stressing that all possible support is being provided to protect lives and property.
