Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has departed for a one-day visit to Amman, Jordan, to attend the ministerial meeting on Jerusalem slated to be held on August 5.

In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said that the DPM, during the visit, would reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their just cause.

DPM Dar is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with participating foreign ministers and exchange views on regional and international developments.

The FO spokesperson said that the meeting will bring together foreign ministers from the Arab League and a group gr of Islamic countries, including Pakistan.

He said the huddle aimed at formulating a unified position on the fast-deteriorating situation in the occupied Jerusalem.

The spokesperson said the deputy prime minister is visiting Amman at the invitation of his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Al Safadi.

The attending foreign ministers will also call on Jordan’s King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein during the visit, read the statement.

Andrabi termed the DPM’s participation in the ministerial meeting on Jerusalem a manifestation of Pakistan’s principled support for the Palestinian people and unwavering commitment to the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous state of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Pakistan and other Muslim countries have repeatedly condemned in the strongest terms the continued incursions by extremist Israeli settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque, Al-Haram Al-Sharif, under the protection of the Israeli forces, as well as the raising of the Israeli flag within its courtyards.

In a joint statement in June, the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Turkiye, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates stressed that these provocative and unacceptable actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law, the relevant United Nations resolutions, and the historical and legal status quo at the holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.

The FO had condemned the continued and systematic violations and measures carried out by Israel, the occupying power, aimed at altering the historical, legal, and demographic character of occupied East Jerusalem and undermining the sanctity and status of its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
