Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has underscored the importance of sustained engagement between the United States and Iran, expressing confidence that the recent round of negotiations in Islamabad could pave the way for future progress despite the absence of a formal agreement.

Addressing a detailed press briefing in Islamabad Dar described the discussions as “extensive, comprehensive, and constructive,” noting that both sides engaged in multiple rounds of dialogue covering a wide range of sensitive and strategic issues.

He emphasized that while the talks did not culminate in a final deal, they reflected a serious commitment from both parties to explore diplomatic solutions.

Dar highlighted that the US delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance, while the Iranian side was headed by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The high-level participation, he said, demonstrated the significance both nations attach to the dialogue process.

He further revealed that the engagement was initiated following a request by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to which both Washington and Tehran responded positively. According to Dar, this willingness to come to the table reflects a constructive mindset and a shared understanding of the need to reduce tensions.

Reiterating Pakistan’s diplomatic stance, Dar stated that Islamabad played an active and facilitative role throughout the process. He noted that senior Pakistani leadership, including Asim Munir, contributed to ensuring that the talks remained focused, structured, and productive.

The deputy prime minister stressed that maintaining the ceasefire remains critical, warning that any breakdown could have serious implications for regional peace and stability. He urged both sides to uphold their commitments and continue engagement in a positive and forward-looking manner.

Dar also expressed optimism that continued dialogue, if pursued with sincerity and flexibility, could eventually lead to a durable and mutually acceptable resolution. He emphasized that peace in the region is not only vital for the countries directly involved but also for broader global stability and economic growth.

He concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to acting as a bridge between the two sides, stating that Islamabad will continue to support dialogue, encourage confidence-building measures, and facilitate efforts aimed at achieving long-term peace.

Despite the lack of an immediate breakthrough, Dar described the Islamabad talks as a meaningful step in the right direction, signaling that diplomacy remains the most viable path forward.
