    COAS Asim Munir, Iranian President discuss regional peace efforts

    RAWALPIND: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday called on Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, where the two sides exchanged views on regional developments and peace initiatives, according to official statements.

    According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), both leaders discussed the evolving regional situation and efforts aimed at promoting stability and de-escalation amid ongoing geopolitical challenges.

    Iranian President appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and responsible role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation, and regional stability.

    He acknowledged Pakistan’s consistent efforts to encourage peaceful resolution of disputes and foster understanding among regional stakeholders at a time of heightened geopolitical challenges.

    Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the region.

    Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations and maintaining close consultations on issues of mutual interest, with the shared objective of advancing peace, prosperity and stability across the region.

    Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that he is confident a US-Iran memorandum of understanding signed with Pakistan as mediator will lead to a long-term agreement after 60 days of technical talks, contributing to global peace.

    Sharif told the National Assembly that the signing was a “historic moment” and that Pakistan’s mediating role had earned international recognition, APP reported.

    “The respect Pakistan has earned around the world through this achievement could not have been bought even by spending billions,” Sharif said.

    The prime minister said the leaders of both countries took part in a high-level committee meeting days ago in Burgenstock, Switzerland, leading to a joint statement and a ceasefire now in effect.
