Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, has shared an update on the widespread devastation caused by recent rains and flooding across the province.
In a video statement, he announced a substantial increase in compensation for affected families and pledged full rehabilitation support for victims.
The chief minister identified several districts hit hardest by the disaster, including Buner, Swat, Shangla, Bajaur, Mansehra, and Swabi. The human toll is severe, with 406 lives lost and 245 people injured.
Damage to property and infrastructure has also been extensive. A total of 664 houses have been completely destroyed, while 2,431 homes have sustained partial damage. The floods also impacted public infrastructure, damaging 511 roads, 77 bridges, and 2,123 shops.
In a determined and proactive response to the recent floods, rescue teams have successfully saved 5,566 individuals and recovered 430 bodies. Chief Minister Gandapur reported significant progress in infrastructure restoration, with 136 roads and 65 bridges now repaired.
To provide urgent financial support, the government has significantly increased compensation for those affected. The payment for families of the deceased has doubled from PKR 1 million to PKR 2 million per person while the amount for injured individuals has risen from PKR 250,000 to PKR 500,000.
Support for property damage has also been expanded. Compensation for completely destroyed houses has increased from PKR 400,000 to PKR 1 million, and for partially damaged homes, from PKR 100,000 to PKR 300,000. In addition, shop owners whose businesses were lost in the disaster will receive PKR 500,000.
The government has pledged further aid for affected farmers, including assistance for damaged crops, orchards, and livestock. So far, PKR 654 million has been disbursed to the families of 350 deceased individuals. A total of PKR 6.5 billion has already been released to the Relief Department, with an additional PKR 5 billion scheduled for release soon.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Chief Minister Gandapur stated, “We will not rest until the complete rehabilitation of the affected people.” He also announced that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would fully cover the expenses of orphaned children and expressed strong solidarity with flood-affected communities in Punjab.
