Lahore: Australia has announced its playing XI for the opening T20I against Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The series, consisting of three matches scheduled for January 29, 31, and February 1, serves as crucial preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Travis Head will lead the Australian team as captain for the first match, stepping in for Mitchell Marsh, who has been rested to manage his workload after a busy season with Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. Head’s leadership is expected to guide the young Australian squad through this important series.

The playing XI features several notable inclusions, including debutants Mahli Beardman and Jack Edwards, as well as Matthew Renshaw, who will make his T20I debut. Renshaw, a seasoned batter with 14 Test and three ODI appearances for Australia, will play his first T20 international.

The squad also includes seasoned players such as Cameron Green, Matt Short, and Josh Philippe, with Philippe serving as the wicketkeeper.

Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa are part of the team’s bowling attack, with young pace bowler Mahli Beardman included for his international debut. The team’s composition reflects a blend of experience and youth, aiming to build momentum ahead of the World Cup.

The series marks Australia’s third tour to Pakistan since their historic visit in March-April 2022, which included Test, ODI, and T20I matches. The upcoming matches at Gaddafi Stadium are part of Australia’s efforts to fine-tune their squad for the major tournament.

The second and third matches will be held at the same venue, with tosses scheduled at 5:30 PM PKT and the matches beginning at 6:00 PM PKT. Fans across Pakistan and around the world will be watching closely as these games set the stage for cricket’s premier T20 event.

Australia’s T20I history against Pakistan stands at 14 wins each, with one tie and one no-result match, making this series highly competitive. Both teams are eager to gain valuable match practice and test their strategies ahead of the global competition.

This series not only highlights the ongoing cricket rivalry but also reinforces Pakistan’s return to hosting international cricket after a period of hiatus, with the series serving as a key milestone in bilateral relations.
