Russian forces launched a wave of missile and drone attacks across Ukraine from Friday into Saturday, leaving at least nine people dead and more than 50 injured, according to Ukrainian regional and military authorities.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported that Russia fired three Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles overnight, alongside 135 attack drones—including Shahed-type drones—launched from multiple regions including Orel, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk, Millerovo, Bryansk, and Chauda Hvardiyske in occupied Crimea.

Air defenses intercepted or jammed two of the three Kinzhal missiles and 91 Shahed drones, the military said. Despite the interceptions, drones and missile strikes hit 13 locations across the country. Falling debris from destroyed drones caused additional damage in four areas.

Kyiv suffered one of the deadliest attacks on Friday. Seven people were killed and 36 wounded when Russian strikes hit nine districts of the capital, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported. The attacks caused widespread destruction to civilian infrastructure and residential buildings.

In the south, the Kherson region endured heavy shelling. Thirty-four communities came under fire, and one person was killed in the frontline city of Kherson, which remains divided by the Dnipro River, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.

Ukrainian officials warn that Russia has intensified its use of drones and ballistic missiles in recent weeks, increasing the toll on civilians as winter approaches.
