Ariana Grande seems to have stepped backwards in her romance with Wicked castmate Ethan Slater.
Grande, 31, took to Instagram on Sunday with a series of behind-the-scenes snaps from her time shooting the film—shortly after Lily Jay’s essay about her heartbreak with ex-husband Slater, 32, got published.
However, notably missing from the pop star’s post was Slater, who plays Boq in the movie adaptation.
“one month of @wickedmovie thank you for your overwhelming love and embrace ! i love you, we love you,” Grande captioned the collection of shots that included Wicked c-stars Cynthia Erivo, Bowen Yang, and others. Grande also turned off comments on the post.
In a deeply personal essay for The Cut, Lilly Jay pondered over the collapse of her marriage.
The single mum opened up about her shock at the divorce, admitting she never imagined her marriage to her high school sweetheart would crumble “especially not just after giving birth to my first child.”
Lily Jay admitted to “days when I can’t escape the promotion of a movie associated with the saddest days of my life are darker.”
The Wicked stars went public with their romance this year. Ever since, Grande and Slater’s relationship has been under scrutiny as both were still legally married when they met on the sets of Wicked in 2022—Slater to Lilly Jay and Grande to ex-husband Dalton Gomez.
Slater initiated divorce proceedings last year while Grande split from Dalton Gomez in September. She asserted that the parting with her estranged husband took effect in February.
