Ant Anstead has addressed where he and longtime girlfriend Renée Zellweger stand on marriage after five years together, saying the pair are happy leaving things as they are for now, even as he confirms he’d welcome the step eventually.
“I still believe in marriage, but right now we’re really happy,” Anstead told The Telegraph in a recent interview.
“We don’t need the pressure of a label.”
The couple, who have largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight since going public in 2021, marked their fifth anniversary together this past April, with Anstead sharing a throwback photo from the set of Celebrity IOU: Joyride, the Discovery+ show on which the pair first met, captioned “How it started…”
According to a source cited by In Touch around the same milestone, Zellweger remains hesitant to remarry, a stance her friends attribute to a personal rule she’s held since her brief 2005 marriage to country singer Kenny Chesney rather than any doubts about her relationship with Anstead.
“She vowed she would never marry again and she has stuck to that,” the source said, adding that friends believe the relationship is “the best and healthiest she’s ever been in.”
Anstead has been married twice before, first to Louise Storey, with whom he shares two children, Amelie and Archie, and later to HGTV‘s Christina Haack, with whom he shares son Hudson.
Anstead also reflected on what first drew him to Zellweger, describing her as unexpectedly down-to-earth when they met filming the car restoration series.
“Renée is a hands-on car girl,” he said, calling her a “very real person” despite her decades in the spotlight as an Oscar winner for Cold Mountain and star of the Bridget Jones franchise.
The pair have lived together in California since 2023, after Anstead sold his previous Laguna Beach home to move in with Zellweger.
