Oscar-winning actress and filmmaker Angelina Jolie has revealed intimate details of her breast cancer prevention journey in a candid interview, showing her mastectomy scars to the public for the first time.

Reflecting on her experience, Jolie said, “I’m always moved when I see other women share theirs,” highlighting the importance of awareness and solidarity.

Jolie first underwent a double mastectomy in 2013, followed by a double oophorectomy in 2015, preventive measures to reduce her cancer risk.

Speaking about why she went public, she explained, “I want to encourage other women to undergo screenings. Access to screening and care should not depend on financial resources or place of residence.”

The actress is also promoting her upcoming film, Couture, directed by French filmmaker Alice Winocour, set to release in French cinemas in February 2026.

In the film, Jolie portrays Maxine Walker, an American filmmaker diagnosed with breast cancer. She praised the movie for portraying women’s struggles with sensitivity, stating, “Too often, movies about women’s struggles, especially cancer, focus on endings and sadness rather than life.”

Concluding with a message of resilience, Jolie added, “Hardships, illnesses, and pain are part of our existence, but what matters is how we face them,” encouraging women worldwide to prioritize health and strength in the face of adversity.
