Norway took the lead in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup, putting England under pressure before halftime. However, Bellingham produced an inspired performance, scoring twice to turn the match in England’s favor and secure the Three Lions’ place in the last four.
Norway thought they had equalized in the 55th minute when Heggem found the net, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review. Referee determined that Erling Haaland had committed a foul on an England defender during the corner-kick build-up, leading to the goal being disallowed.
The victory sends England into the World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2018, when they eventually finished fourth. England won their only FIFA World Cup title in 1966 and also reached the semi-finals in 1990, where they finished in fourth place.
For Norway, the defeat ends a memorable campaign. The Scandinavian side had qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 28 years and reached the quarter-finals for the first time in the tournament’s history. Their impressive run came to an end in Miami as England halted their dream of a historic semi-final appearance.
