    PM Shehbaz, Iranian President hold first call after historical peace accord

    PM also conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader.

    ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held their first telephone conversation following the signing of the Islamabad Peace Accord, with the two leaders discussing bilateral ties and regional stability for more than 30 minutes, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

    Shehbaz congratulated Pezeshkian, Iran’s leadership and its people on the signing of the landmark agreement, saying the accord would not only help promote peace in the region but also contribute to Iran’s reconstruction and strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and Iran across areas of mutual interest.

    The prime minister also conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, and praised Tehran’s decision to sign the peace agreement, expressing hope for the success of the next phase of negotiations.

    Shehbaz said Pakistan, as a brotherly neighboring country, would continue to fully support Iran in all sectors.

    According to the statement, President Pezeshkian thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, saying both had played a key role in the success of the mediation efforts with skill, sincerity and wisdom.

    The Iranian president said Tehran would always value Pakistan’s mediation and would remember its constructive and sincere support during difficult times.

    He also expressed goodwill for the people of Pakistan and said Iran was keen to further expand bilateral ties in all areas of mutual interest.

    Both leaders agreed to visit each other’s capitals at a mutually convenient time and pledged to remain in close contact in the coming days.
