ISLAMABAD: Inflation-hit electricity consumers in Pakistan may face another increase in their monthly bills as power authorities have proposed a hike of 82 paisas per unit under the monthly Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) for May.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has officially submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), seeking approval for the proposed adjustment in electricity tariffs. NEPRA has scheduled a hearing on June 30 to review the application and examine the relevant fuel cost data.
According to details submitted in the petition, the average fuel cost of electricity generation during May stood at Rs9.25 per unit. This figure has been used as the basis for the requested increase under the monthly adjustment mechanism.

If NEPRA approves the proposal, electricity consumers across the country are likely to bear an additional financial burden of around Rs12 billion. The adjustment, once applied, would directly impact monthly utility bills of domestic and commercial users.
Officials said NEPRA will carefully examine fuel price data, generation costs, and supporting calculations before issuing its final decision on the matter after the hearing.
The latest development comes at a time when consumers are already struggling with high electricity tariffs and persistent inflationary pressure, adding further strain to household budgets. The regulator’s verdict on June 30 will determine whether the proposed increase is implemented or rejected.
