The funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will begin in Tehran on July 4, and he will be buried in his home town of Mashhad on July 9, according to state media.

According to Iranian media reports, public condolence gatherings and farewell ceremonies will begin at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Musalla, where various programs will be held in memory of the Supreme Leader and some members of his family.

As per the schedule, the funeral procession will take place in Tehran on July 6, while the funeral prayer will be offered in the holy city of Qom on July 7. Afterward, the public will be given opportunities to pay their final respects at different locations.

The Ali Khamenei will be laid to rest on July 9 at the shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad, one of Iran’s most important religious centers and a major pilgrimage site visited by millions each year.

Iranian authorities said that large-scale participation is expected from religious scholars, political figures, international dignitaries, and millions of citizens in these mourning and farewell events. Special security arrangements are also being put in place to ensure peaceful proceedings.

Officials added that the ceremonies will honor the life, services, and contributions of the late leader to Iran’s religious and political landscape.
