US pop star Ariana Grande has asked the White House to stop using her music in posts about its immigration policies.
Grande response came after the White House shared a ‘Tik-Tok’ video that featured her 2024 song “Bye.” The video showed border agents placing people in handcuffs and taking them into custody.
White House added a caption that praised President Donald Trump border policies and claimed he had delivered the most secure border in history.
Grande quickly reacted to the post. She wrote that she did not want her music linked to what she described as a harmful and inhumane message. Shortly after her comment appeared, the White House muted the video and removed her response.
Many social media users noticed the changes. Several people commented that Grande message had disappeared and that the sound no longer played in the video.
White House defended its position after Grande criticism. The real problem was criminal migrants who had harmed American citizens. She argued that the administration immigration policies focused on public safety.
The video appeared days after President Trump signed a major funding bill for immigration agencies. The law provides more than $70 billion for border and immigration enforcement over the next two and a half years.
Grande is not the first artist to object to the use of her music. Several musicians have previously asked Trump and his team not to use their songs in political content or campaign events.
Last year, Sabrina Carpenter criticized the use of her song “Juno” in a White House video about immigration enforcement. She said she did not want her music connected to the administration agenda.
Other major artists have made similar requests. Members of ABBA, singer Celine Dion, and Beyonce all opposed the use of their music during Trump 2024 election campaign.
The latest dispute highlights the ongoing tension between political groups and artists over the use of music in public campaigns and government messaging.
