ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to boycott the ongoing budget session, party sources said on Friday.
According to the decision, senior PPP leader and lawmaker Naveed Qamar will represent the party during the proceedings.
Sources said the remaining PPP members will not attend the session as part of the party’s boycott strategy.
No detailed explanation for the decision was immediately available, while party leaders are expected to outline their position in the coming days.
On other hand, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) denied reports that it had decided to boycott the budget session, reaffirming its commitment to participating in the parliamentary budget process.
A party spokesperson said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will not attend the budget session, but clarified that the party has not announced any boycott.
The spokesperson said some PPP lawmakers will participate in the session and represent the party during budget proceedings.
According to the statement, the PPP will remain part of the budget process in the national interest and will continue to play its parliamentary role during discussions on the federal budget.
The clarification came after reports suggested that the party had decided to stay away from the session.
Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmakers staged a protest on the floor of the National Assembly during the budget session, demanding a greater share of water for Sindh.
PPP members, including Shazia Marri, entered the assembly carrying placards bearing the slogan “Give Water to Sindh.”
The protesting lawmakers gathered in front of the Speaker’s dais and raised slogans in support of Sindh’s water rights during the proceedings.
Witnesses said chants of “Water for Sindh” echoed through the assembly hall as PPP legislators pressed their demands.
Similarly, a senior government delegation met PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his chamber at Parliament House amid efforts to address the party’s concerns during the ongoing budget session.
According to sources, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar were present during the meeting with Bilawal Bhutto.
The discussions focused on resolving reservations raised by the PPP and maintaining cooperation between the government and its key ally on parliamentary and policy matters.
Sources said the government is making efforts to address Bilawal Bhutto’s concerns and ensure continued engagement with the PPP during the budget process.
