Iranian attack on Kuwait airport injures 63, flights disrupts

Kuwait’s Health Ministry said 63 people were injured after Iranian drone and missile attacks hit a terminal at Kuwait International Airport.

The ministry said seven major surgeries were carried out for people who suffered serious injuries in the attack. Kuwaiti authorities said one person was killed. The strikes also damaged important airport facilities and some diplomatic buildings.

Following the attack, flights at Kuwait International Airport were temporarily suspended. Authorities assessed the damage and carried out safety checks before allowing operations to continue. Later, Kuwait’s civil aviation authority announced that Kuwait Airways had resumed flights from Terminal 4. Officials said work was continuing to restore normal airport operations and ensure passenger safety.

In Bahrain, the military said it intercepted three missiles and several drones. Iran claimed it had targeted the headquarters of the US fifth fleet in Bahrain, along with an airbase and helicopters in another Gulf country. However, the claim could not be independently verified.

🚨 UPDATE: Iran’s attack on Kuwait has left at least 63 people injured, including airport workers and passengers, according to Kuwait’s Health Ministry. The US military said two Iranian missiles aimed at Kuwait either fell short or broke apart during flight. It also said several other ballistic missiles failed to reach their targets.

The latest attacks have increased pressure on a ceasefire agreement reached in early April. The truce followed weeks of fighting that began on February 28. Since the conflict started, Iran has launched attacks on several locations across the Gulf region. Some of the targeted areas host US military bases, while both civilian and military sites have been affected.

The renewed fighting pushed oil prices up by more than 2 percent. Investors remain concerned about security in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

The waterway previously handled about one fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. It has remained largely closed since US and Israeli strikes on Iran more than three months ago.

Despite the recent violence, Iran and the United States signaled progress last week toward a preliminary agreement. The proposed deal aims to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. No formal agreement has been finalized so far. More difficult negotiations are expected if both sides move forward with an initial deal.
