ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the summoning of sessions of both the National Assembly and the Senate on June 5 for the commencement of proceedings on the federal budget for fiscal year 2026–27.

According to official details, the National Assembly session will be held on Friday, June 5 at 5pm, during which the federal budget will be presented.

The Senate session has also been convened on the same day at 6pm following approval by the president.

Sources said the formal agenda for both houses will be issued in the coming days ahead of the start of the budget session.

The upcoming budget session is considered significant as the government prepares to unveil the fiscal plan amid ongoing economic challenges and continued consultations on key financial measures, including possible adjustments in salaries and pensions.

It is also pertinent to mention that more than 60 members of parliament travelled to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj this year and are expected to return to Pakistan in early June.

Their return is likely to ensure broader parliamentary participation in the crucial budget session and subsequent debates in both houses of parliament.
