Pakistan mediating Iran–US talks, says Ismail Baghaei

Foreign Ministry spokesman said the process is not taking place through direct talks.

TEHRAN: Iran’s Foreign Ministry Ismail Baghae said Monday that indirect communication between Tehran and Washington is continuing through Pakistan’s mediation, with both sides exchanging responses and proposals on recent diplomatic initiatives.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said the process is not taking place through direct talks, but through intermediary channels in which Pakistan is playing a key role.

He said Iran remains focused on ending regional conflicts and stressed that although contacts have not been cut off, major differences between Tehran and Washington persist.

Baghaei said Iran has submitted its proposals and has received responses from the United States, which are currently under review.

He added that Iranian and Omani technical teams held talks in Oman last week on maritime safety protocols in the Strait of Hormuz and continue consultations with relevant parties on operational procedures in the waterway.

The spokesman reiterated that Iran has no hostility toward any country in the region, including the United Arab Emirates.

He said Iran will not negotiate or compromise on its right to uranium enrichment, calling it a “non-negotiable” issue under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which recognizes Iran’s rights.

Responding to questions about exchanged conditions between Tehran and Washington, Baghaei said Iran’s demands are clear, including the lifting of sanctions on frozen assets, which he described as a key requirement.

He also criticized US policy in the region, saying Washington has lost credibility internationally and warning that its presence has increased regional instability rather than promoting peace.
