Reform UK has emerged as the surprise performer, winning 381 seats.

LONDON: Early results from local elections across the United Kingdom indicate major changes in the country’s political landscape, with both the ruling Labour Party and the opposition Conservative Party suffering significant setbacks.

According to results announced from 44 councils so far, Reform UK has emerged as the surprise performer, winning 381 seats and dramatically reshaping the political narrative.

The Conservative Party secured 248 seats, while Labour won 246 seats and the Liberal Democrats claimed 245 seats.

Labour reportedly lost 253 seats overall, while the Conservatives were also dealt a major blow after losing 161 seats.

Political analysts say the strong performance of Reform UK signals a significant shift in British politics and reflects growing voter dissatisfaction with traditional mainstream parties.

Results from 92 councils are still awaited, keeping political uncertainty alive across the country.

The developments are also being viewed with concern among overseas Pakistanis and Kashmiris residing in the UK, given the potential impact on future political representation and community-related issues.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has rejected calls to step down following disappointing local election results, saying he will remain in office and complete his full five-year term despite acknowledging “tough and disappointing” outcomes.

Speaking after the results, the UK Prime Minister admitted that the performance of the Labour Party was not satisfactory and that some “unnecessary mistakes” had been made during governance.

He said the party had failed to bring rapid improvements in people’s lives but emphasized that his government was elected to deal with major national challenges and would continue to do so.
