Billy Porter won’t be gracing the Met Gala red carpet this year.
According to him, he hasn’t been asked back since his show‑stopping debut in 2019.
On SiriusXM’s Bevelations, the Emmy‑winning Pose star revealed that his one and only Met Gala appearance came courtesy of producer Ryan Murphy, who invited him while the FX drama was at its peak.
“I have not been invited. I haven’t been invited back since 2019. That’s the only time I’ve ever gone, and the only time I’ve ever been invited,” Porter said.
The actor, known for his theatrical, gender‑fluid fashion statements, admitted he was surprised not to be included in last year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
“I was not invited. I’m just gonna throw that out there. I’m good. It’s all good, but the reality is, when people ask me, you need to know: I was not invited. And I don’t go to places where I’m not welcome,” he explained.
Still, Porter insisted he’s unfazed.
“I’ve earned the invitation, and it’s OK that I don’t have it, because there’s a level that I’ve reached that doesn’t require validation from the outside. So I’m gonna sit and live in that, because it helps keep me sane, too.”
Porter’s career continues to thrive beyond the Met Gala spotlight.
He recently attended the Recording Academy Honors during the 68th GRAMMY Awards, and his upcoming projects include The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
For Porter, fashion remains a form of activism.
“Fashion is art and we’re the first to be silenced,” he told WWD in 2023.
