Islamabad: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who led Tehran’s delegation during the recent Islamabad negotiations, has commended Pakistan for its diplomatic facilitation, while making it clear that Iran’s reservations regarding the United States remain firmly intact.

In remarks issued after the conclusion of the talks, Ghalibaf characterised Pakistan as a “brotherly and trusted partner,” expressing appreciation for both the state leadership and the public for enabling a constructive diplomatic environment.

He indicated that Iran approached the negotiations with a genuine intent to engage and advance dialogue. However he stressed that historical precedents particularly shaped by recent confrontations continue to influence Tehran’s cautious posture and limit its confidence in the opposing side’s commitments.

Detailing the negotiation process Ghalibaf disclosed that the Iranian delegation tabled a number of forward-looking proposals designed to move discussions toward a sustainable framework. Despite these efforts, he noted that the United States was unable to establish the level of credibility required to secure a breakthrough in this round.

“Washington has come to understand our principles and strategic logic,” he stated, adding that the next step depends on whether the United States can translate that understanding into trust-building measures.

Ghalibaf further framed diplomacy as a critical pillar of national strength, operating alongside defence capabilities. He emphasised that Iran will continue to utilise all diplomatic channels to preserve what he described as the gains achieved through its recent national defence posture.

On the domestic front, he highlighted a strong sense of national unity, noting that Iran’s population stands firmly aligned with its leadership. He also pointed to public demonstrations of support carried out in accordance with the guidance of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Concluding his statement, Ghalibaf commended the Iranian negotiating team for its endurance and professionalism during what he described as “intensive 21-hour deliberations,” acknowledging their role in sustaining dialogue under challenging circumstances.
