Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan has etched his name even deeper into sporting history, delivering an extraordinary 153 break the highest ever recorded in professional competition at the World Open in China.

The seven-time world champion produced the remarkable clearance during a dominant 5–0 victory over Wales’ Ryan Day, securing his place in the semi-finals in Yushan with commanding authority.

O’Sullivan, long hailed as the greatest player the sport has ever produced, capitalised on a rare free-ball opportunity to construct the record-breaking break. Beginning with the green, he transitioned flawlessly into a black before methodically potting all 15 reds.

His precision continued with a sequence of 13 blacks and two pinks, culminating in a composed clearance of the colours to complete the historic 153.

The crowd responded with resounding applause as O’Sullivan, displaying characteristic composure, acknowledged the milestone with a subtle smile and a thumbs-up.

This achievement surpasses the previous record of 148, set by Jamie Burnett in 2004, establishing a new and unprecedented benchmark in professional snooker.

Reflecting on the moment, O’Sullivan expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support from fans, describing the feat as a memorable and deeply satisfying accomplishment.

Affectionately known as “The Rocket”, O’Sullivan already holds the record for the most maximum 147 breaks in history, with 17 to his name further reinforcing his enduring legacy as one of the sport’s most iconic figures.
