The president congratulated Nehal Hashmi on his appointment and extended his best wishes for success in his new role.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Nehal Hashmi as the new Governor of Sindh, following the advice of Shahbaz Sharif.

The president congratulated Nehal Hashmi on his appointment and extended his best wishes for success in his new role.

    Brief Political Profile

Nehal Hashmi, who belongs to Karachi, has been associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz(PML-N) for several decades.

He served as Advisor on Law and Justice to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from 1997 to 1999. In 2012, he held the position of President of the PML-N Karachi chapter, and in August 2014 he was appointed General Secretary of the party’s Sindh chapter.

In 2015, Hashmi was elected to the Senate of Pakistan on a PML-N seat from Punjab.

He was expelled from the party in 2017 following a controversial statement related to the Panama Papers case, but his membership in PML-N was restored in 2021.

The government has now decided to appoint him as the Governor of Sindh, marking a new phase in his political career.
