Karachi: In a groundbreaking initiative to empower women, the Sindh government has announced the distribution of free pink electric scooters to women today, March 8, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

The program aims to provide women with safe, eco-friendly, and modern transportation, while promoting mobility, independence, and energy-efficient commuting.

Senior Provincial Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, described the initiative as a strategic step to enhance women’s autonomy and encourage sustainable transport solutions.

Under the program, selected recipients will receive state-of-the-art electric scooters, along with formal driving training and road safety awareness sessions to ensure a secure riding experience.

Minister Memon highlighted that the “Pink Electric Scooter Program” will significantly empower women by providing convenient and safe transportation, reflecting the Sindh government’s commitment to future projects aimed at improving living standards, particularly for women.

This initiative follows a similar program last September, when PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari distributed free pink scooters to working women in Karachi.

The ceremony was attended by CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Minister Memon, and other dignitaries. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reaffirmed the government’s focus on creating opportunities for women and highlighted Sindh’s distinction as the first province in Pakistan to introduce electric buses.

    Distribution Process:

    1. Scooters will be allocated through a transparent balloting process in the presence of media representatives.
    2. A committee, including officials from the Excise, Transport, and Finance departments along with media personnel, will ensure fairness and transparency.

    How to Apply:

    1. Visit the Sindh Mass Transit Authority’s website.
    2. Go to the “Projects” section.
    3. Select the “EV Scooty Ballot Form Application Form.”
    4. Complete the form, attach the required documents, and submit.
