Both public and private schools and colleges will observe the holiday on the 21st of Ramadan, the day traditionally commemorated as Youm-e-Ali.

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced that all educational institutions across the province will remain closed on March 11 (Wednesday) in observance of Youm-e-Ali, marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali.

According to an official notification issued by the provincial authorities, both public and private schools and colleges will observe the holiday on the 21st of Ramadan, the day traditionally commemorated as Youm-e-Ali.

The decision was taken following recommendations from the provincial sub-committee of the steering committee on education, which oversees academic schedules and policy decisions for educational institutions in Sindh.

Every year, Youm-e-Ali is observed on the 21st of Ramadan, during which large processions and religious gatherings are held across the country to pay tribute to the life and martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA).

In a separate development, authorities in Islamabad have announced a spring break for educational institutions operating under the Federal Directorate of Education.

According to the notification, all institutions under the FDE in both urban and rural areas of Islamabad will observe the break from March 24 to March 27, 2026.

The announcement states that educational institutions will resume regular activities on March 30 (Monday) after the break. On the reopening day, teaching staff attendance will be mandatory to ensure the preparation and announcement of in-house annual examination results.
