Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar chaired a high-level emergency meeting at the Sindh Assembly to review recent security threats and strategize effective countermeasures.

The comprehensive session was attended by top officials, including the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), IGP Sindh, Additional IGPs representing Karachi, CTD, and Special Branch, Inspector General of Prisons, Joint Director General IB, representatives from ASF and Pakistan Airports Authority, Sindh Rangers, and senior law enforcement personnel.

Participants discussed internal and external threats, protection of sensitive installations, monitoring of public spaces, and enhancing inter-agency coordination.

Addressing the gathering, Home Minister Lanjar emphasized the critical importance of securing Karachi, the country’s economic hub. He highlighted the need for firm, immediate, and effective decisions to prevent any tragedy, especially considering recent security concerns and past incidents.

He directed authorities to tighten airport security, ensuring foolproof measures amidst heavy passenger flow, and to strictly enforce policies limiting access at pick-and-drop points. The importance of close coordination among all security institutions was underscored to ensure swift response to any untoward incident.

The Home Minister also stressed enhancing intelligence sharing and formulating comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for rapid action. He instructed the deployment of search app devices in all prisons for efficient checking and mandated the presence of lady searchers at all entry and exit points across the province.

In a crackdown on extremist activities, Lanjar ordered forensic analysis of social media content promoting sectarian or militant views and action against those involved. He called for submitting legal recommendations regarding the Transport I-App and emphasized completing security audits of vital installations.

Strict measures were also announced to curb the public display of weapons and ensure the implementation of the National Action Plan and Tenancy Act in letter and spirit. Vigilance at railway stations, bus terminals, truck stands, and freight hubs was reinforced, along with modernization of surveillance systems.

In last, Lanjar assured that coordination with other provinces is strong, and through mutual cooperation, all threats will be effectively countered. Authorities were instructed to implement decisions immediately and submit a progress report to monitor ongoing security enhancement efforts.
