The Zonal Ru’yat-e-Hilal Committee in Islamabad will hold a session today at 5:30 PM at the Ministry of Religious Affairs for sighting of Ramadan moon.
In Pakistan, the holy month of Ramadan is set to begin from tomorrow, as the Central Ru’yat-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet today in Peshawar to confirm the sighting of moon.
According to sources, the committees will review testimonies and reports received from across the country regarding the visibility of the moon, based on which the official announcement for the start of Ramadan will be made.
The chairman of the Central Ru’yat-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, will provide the final confirmation.
The spokesperson of SUPARCO stated that the new moon was born on Tuesday at 5:01 PM Pakistani time. By sunset today, the moon’s age will be approximately 25 hours and 48 minutes, creating favorable conditions for sighting.
Globally, Ramadan has already commenced in several countries. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, and Afghanistan have sighted the moon, marking the first fast today.
Meanwhile, Turkey, Oman, Singapore, Australia, Brunei, and Indonesia have not yet sighted the moon; in these countries, the first fast will begin on Thursday, February 19. Similarly, Japan, the Philippines, and France are also set to observe the first fast on Thursday.
Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court confirmed the sighting of Ramadan’s moon, declaring today the first day of fasting. Several Arab countries held meetings to verify the crescent, ensuring the holy month begins in accordance with Islamic traditions.
