Alcaraz & Sinner light up South Korea today, doubles surprise looms

The tennis world is buzzing as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner take the court today in South Korea for a high-profile exhibition match.

Fierce rivals on the ATP Tour, the duo have teased a jaw-dropping doubles partnership that could thrill fans and add an unexpected twist to the start of 2026.

Although South Korea does not host an ATP 250-level event, the exhibition promises world-class tennis excitement, giving fans a rare chance to see two of the sport’s brightest young stars share the court and potentially team up for a surprise doubles match.

Over the past two years, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated men’s tennis, splitting eight Grand Slam titles and facing off in the last three major finals. Off the court, however, the two maintain a friendly rapport, frequently praising each other’s talent and professionalism, leaving the door open for collaboration.

At a press briefing ahead of today’s exhibition, the pair were asked about the possibility of playing doubles and their responses have fans buzzing.

“At least once would be amazing,” Alcaraz said with a grin. “I’d take forehand, he’d play backhand if my partner agrees,” he added, nodding at Sinner.

Sinner replied with enthusiasm: “We’ve never really talked about it seriously, but it would be so much fun. Maybe today or sometime this year we’ll surprise the fans.”

Alcaraz acknowledged that their packed singles schedules make doubles tricky, but confirmed he would love to team up with Sinner at least once. “We’ve thought about it a few times. Singles dominate our calendar, but playing doubles even once would be incredible,” he said.

A potential Alcaraz–Sinner doubles pairing could eclipse any of the high-profile mixed doubles teams from the 2025 US Open, including Alcaraz with Emma Raducanu, making today’s exhibition one of the most anticipated tennis events of the year.

Fans around the globe will be watching, eager to witness a perfect blend of rivalry, skill, and unexpected teamwork.
