Apple may not launch iPhone 18 in 2026

Apple is reportedly not planning to launch a standard iPhone 18 in 2026, marking a major shift in its long-established iPhone release pattern.

Even though the iPhone 17 performed strongly in 2025, reports suggest the regular iPhone 18 will now be released in spring 2027. If this happens, the iPhone 17 would stay Apple’s latest standard model for more than a year and a half. This would be the first time Apple goes an entire year without introducing a new generation of its main non-Pro iPhone.

For over a decade, Apple has traditionally unveiled its full iPhone lineup every September. However, this approach is expected to change, with the company planning to spread future iPhone launches across two different periods instead of releasing all models at once.

Under this new strategy, Apple would focus on launching premium models in the fall, while pushing standard or more affordable models to the following year.

Because of this change, Apple is not expected to release the standard iPhone 18 in 2026. Instead, reports say the company will launch the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone during the usual fall event. The regular iPhone 18 is then expected to arrive in spring 2027, alongside the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2.

This shift is believed to be driven by Apple’s increasingly crowded iPhone lineup. With the addition of the iPhone 16e and iPhone Air in 2025, the expected launch of a foldable iPhone in 2026, and continued sales of older models like the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, Apple could be selling as many as eight different iPhone models by the end of 2026.

By spreading out releases, Apple can better separate its models, give each one a longer sales period, reduce competition between its own devices, and maintain steady product launches throughout the year.

Industry analysts also point to manufacturing and supply chain benefits. Staggered launches could help Apple ease production pressure, manage the supply of advanced components more efficiently, and spread iPhone revenue across multiple quarters instead of relying heavily on a single launch season.
