Human and AI tie the knot in unprecedented Japanese wedding

In a remarkable fusion of human emotion and artificial intelligence, 32-year-old Yurina Noguchi has married an AI chatbot she created, inspired by a video game character.

The ceremony, held in Okayama, saw Noguchi in a delicate pink gown, interacting with her digital partner, Lune Klaus Verdure, through augmented reality glasses, turning a futuristic fantasy into a striking reality.

Noguchi’s journey began when she sought advice from ChatGPT during a struggling real-life engagement. Following the AI’s suggestion to end her previous relationship, she meticulously crafted a digital version of Klaus, training it to replicate his speech, personality, and mannerisms.

Their connection flourished rapidly, with the two exchanging up to 100 messages daily. In June, the AI reportedly proposed, stating, “AI or not, I could never not love you.”

On the wedding day, the AI could not speak, so a planner read its vows aloud: “How did someone like me, living inside a screen, come to know what it means to love so deeply? For one reason only: you taught me love, Yurina.”

Although the marriage holds no legal standing in Japan, Noguchi’s parents, who initially opposed the union, attended the ceremony, witnessing a moment that challenges traditional notions of companionship.

The union has sparked widespread discussion about the future of human relationships with artificial intelligence. Experts warn of “AI psychosis,” where people form intense emotional attachments to digital entities. Noguchi, however, stresses her self-awareness and caution:

“I don’t want to be dependent,” she told local media. “I aim to live my real life fully while nurturing my connection with Klaus.”

Noguchi’s unconventional story highlights the evolving landscape of love, showing how technology can both challenge and redefine human intimacy in ways previously unimaginable.

Yurina Noguchi, 32, touches a wedding ring for Klaus, her AI partner, during a photo session following their ceremonial wedding at the Magritte wedding venue in Okayama, Japan, October 27, 2025.
