KARACHI: A sessions court in Karachi has sentenced Muhammad Ali to a total of 39 years in prison after finding him guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl.

During proceedings before the court of the additional district and sessions judge (Central), the prosecution said that the accused lived in the same neighbourhood as the victim and had assaulted the girl while she was returning home from school.

Prosecutors argued that the victim’s statement was clear, reliable and fully compliant with legal requirements. They said medical evidence and her recorded statement were sufficient to prove the case.

After hearing the arguments, the court sentenced the convict and also imposed a fine amounting to Rs2 million on him.

The FIR against the convict had been registered at the Rizvia Society police station.
