KARACHI: The Standing Committee on Home Affairs held a key meeting at the Sindh Assembly building under the chairpersonship of Faryal Talpur.
The meeting covered a six-point agenda, including drug mafia arrests, forensic lab performance, investigation of chemically adulterated milk, land mafia cases, the proposal for a provincial cybercrime unit, and ongoing police operations in rural (Kacha) areas. Relevant DIGs and IG Sindh provided detailed point-to-point briefings.
Key Highlights from the Meeting:
Drugs: Chairperson Faryal Talpur emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against drug dealers, calling drugs a “curse destroying the future of our children.”
Land Mafia: She stated that land grabbing in Sindh is unacceptable and stressed that all committee recommendations and actions must be merit-based.
Cybercrime Unit: The proposal for a provincial cybercrime unit will be submitted to the federal government for approval.
Kacha Area Operations: Faryal Talpur expressed satisfaction with police operations in Larkana and Sukkur, praising young officers’ performance. SSPs of Shikarpur and Karachi City were also commended, particularly for neutralizing notorious criminal Sathi Jatoi.
Interior Minister Sindh’s Update:
Joint anti-drug operations are ongoing with Sindh Police, Excise, and ANF, including strict checks at entry and exit points.
Land-grabbing committee, led by the Interior Minister, ensures decisions are merit-based.
71 criminals have surrendered under the police surrender policy; operations are now moving toward Ghotki.
IG Sindh’s Briefing:
12,623 suspects arrested in 9,810 FIRs related to drug trafficking; 26 suspects injured and 7 killed during operations. Significant success in cracking down on Gutka and Maava supply.
68 out of 75 suspects supplying drugs to educational institutions have been apprehended.
Chemically adulterated milk: 9 suspects arrested in 7 cases. Chairperson Talpur stressed strict action against those endangering public health.
Land mafia: 769 suspects arrested in 326 cases.
Kacha area operations: 1,368 criminals arrested, 508 injured, and 190 killed in police encounters. Notable criminals apprehended include Adam, Fareed, Hakim Ali, and Niyaz Teghani, involved in murder, robbery, kidnapping for ransom, and honey trap cases.
Cybercrime and ransom cases: Provincial cybercrime unit proposal submitted; kidnapping for ransom reduced to zero, and four honey trap cases are under investigation.
The meeting was attended by provincial assembly members, committee members, Additional Chief Secretary Excise, Law Secretaries, Additional IGs, CTD Karachi, and all DIGs of Sindh.
