The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has strongly criticized the US-supported UN Security Council resolution concerning Gaza’s future, calling it an attempt to impose international oversight on the region’s autonomy.
Hamas and other Palestinian groups have highlighted the risks in the draft resolution, including the proposed deployment of an international stabilization force. The group argued that the resolution paves the way for external control over Palestinian national decisions, effectively undermining Gaza’s administration and reconstruction by handing authority to a supranational body, thereby stripping Palestinians of their fundamental rights.
Hamas emphasized that humanitarian aid should be delivered through Palestinian institutions under UN supervision, respecting Palestinian sovereignty and the needs of the local population. The group further stated that aid should not be used to weaken Palestinian institutions, and it strongly opposes any clauses related to Gaza’s disarmament.
The UN Security Council is reviewing the Middle East situation on Monday, more than a month after a ceasefire was implemented following a two-year-long conflict in Gaza. The US resolution is expected to be part of the agenda.
Supporters of the resolution include Egypt, Qatar, the UAE, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Turkey, while Western countries have stressed that Gaza’s peace plan should be ensured under the UN Security Council’s mandate.
The resolution proposes Hamas’ disarmament, deployment of an international military force in Gaza, and the formation of an interim government composed of Palestinian technocrats.
