Space One postpones Kairos rocket launch
Space One, a Tokyo-based private space exploration company, has postponed the launch of its Kairos rocket following an earlier mid-air explosion during its first attempt in March 2024.
Initially scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 am, the launch was delayed by 24 hours to Sunday but was ultimately called off 20 minutes prior due to high wind speeds. Kozo Abe, a Space One executive, stated that wind conditions at altitudes above 10 kilometers were unsuitable for the launch.
The Kairos rocket was set to take off from a private launch pad in Wakayama, carrying a small government test satellite. Space One is striving to become Japan’s first private company to successfully place a satellite into orbit, aiming to offer more affordable and frequent space exploration services. The company’s ambition mirrors that of SpaceX, which has established partnerships with NASA and the Pentagon.
Despite its previous failure, Space One remains committed to its mission. The company plans to make another attempt, likely on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Abe assured that Space One would spare no effort in preparing for the upcoming launch.
With its determination and innovative approach, Space One is poised to make significant strides in Japan’s private aerospace sector.
